Reflection on Skills Development

Over creating my AS portfolio I have learned new skills and developed old skill sets I acquired from GCSE media studies. I have made progress in programs such as Photoshop and indesign. I also Learned and now have skills using web based programs such as Prezi and Slideshare. Additionally I've developed practical skills in using cameras.

First of all I enhanced existing skills I had from GCSE media. In GCSE media I acquired a basic skill set that included laying text over images. In AS media I furthered these skills by learning how to use the "Fx" feature to edit the fonts used by using tools presented to me such as Drop shadow and Outer glow which give simple fonts a more stylised and professional look. I also learned how to transform fonts twisting them to be taller or shorter and wider and thinner to give me the look I want. Furthermore I learned how to edit actual images. I now can resize my images and crop what I don't need. During making my magazine I edited my two main images. The front cover I applied a customised filter changing the colours of the image to black and white showing the way the light was entering the frame.  The second photo I learned once again added a filter but kept the colours of my models shirt this was called colour selection, another tool to give my magazine a professional look. I also took my previous skills of using the shapes tool and learned how to transform them to shapes I desired.

I also developed my basic skills in InDesign, learning how to resize and use text boxes, making a correct page length and using shapes once again. I also used many web based programs such as Prezi Slide share youtube ect

If i work on my time management throughout the year i will be able to get a better end result which i will also have time to go back over and improve, therefore making the final piece look more professional.
